Why do people feel the need to put up ribbon trails??
Some guy had gone out in the WMA I hunt and put up ribbon trails all over the place. I'm sure it is the same guy, as all the trails were marked the same way with the same ribbon. I hunt one area of the WMA in particular, and found at least 8 marked trails this guy put up..
So the questions are:
Does he think that since he has put up these ribbon trails that no one else is allowed to hunt those spots but him??
Does he think that since he has put up these ribbon trails that people will stay out and avoid these spots? The way I see it, it only invites others to walk into these spots.
It invited me because I walked in every one of them and cut them down
Do people feel they need a blazed trail to follow or they will get lost??
Personally, I would never think of flagging a trail. I have worked hard to find productive spots and would not want to leave a map for others to follow. I use brite eyes and even still only put one every 50-100 yards at a minimum
i ribbo so i dont get lost.. if i ribbon there must be a 4 way trail or someting that might confuse me. i never follow anyones ribbon trails. so i guess it works form someone.. when im driving and see a ribbon trail off the road in a place where i cant really park i would never follow it. its just gonna take you to his stand and mess up his hunt.
When we see the ribbon trails in the WMA we hunt we always pull them down. We had a guy who had put some up that where like 5 feet long and looked ridiculous. The following year someone in the same area spray painted green on trees as their trail. (yea forest green painted on trees is really gonna be helpful "lol" )
I use brown reflective tacks. during the day you have no idea that they are there but at night they give off a dim orange color. They seem to stay hidden better
nite eyes work great..
turkey season at three lakes i would just use my gps. had already marked a few areas and would just go to the spot.
