I hope that in time we could have a few days afield! This has been a trying time as in trying to get home sold health better so I can get my butt back home. The family farm is long since gone so I will have to look for hogs and deer on public lands or a few friends places.
But thats why I ask questions to find out where it would be best to find a plot near some hunting land.
I know it's been a while since your post about Pine Log, but I did talk to the gate tender at Fitzhugh Carter WMA last week. It seems that most of it is quota, or so he said, and that there are lots of good deer and hogs there. In fact, they promote removal of any and all hogs seen. And, since it's right down the road from my wife's uncle's place in Vernon, it is sounding real good to me, especially after the "great success" I've had on Econfina Creek this year. I am definitely shooting for any and all quotas a Fitzhugh again this year along with Pine Log. They have a real nice camp area there, and there are even food plots that the "regulars" maintain, which is almost unheard of on a WMA. All this info from the man running the gate at Fitzhugh, who happens to also be a regular on Pine Log. I'm over in East central FL, but if ur planning on heading up that way, pm me, and maybe we can get together to talk the WMAs I'm familiar with up there.
I would enjoy a time in the woods(Pine Log)because of all the game I have seen there. That place was all beat up with hog traffic and for the deer they were there in good numbers also.I saw so many turkey that I have to get out there for them too.I had hogs running right during the daytime plus I sat out near the graveyard and saw several good eaters mid day.Back at the boat ramp I saw so many hogs I thought this place must never get hunted and this was all from 8am to 2pm!!I only saw a few hogs in bow range but many in range for a gun. When I do get there believe me I would like to take you up on hunting for sure!!
Just PM me when you're headed up that way. I'm headed up to Vernon for a long weekend sometime over the last 2 weeks of Feb for ML/Archery. Not sure where I'm going to hunt. Hoping the Choctowatchee is down enough to hunt there. My wife's uncle has some good spots picked out. Last year on the river, there were deer and hogs everywhere, just none within range. Gotta check in with the guy at Fitzhugh to find out more about getting into Pine Log on a regular basis.
I will keep in contact I have been looking into a couple acres not far from Ebro off of 20 on a little road called Smokehouse rd.Had bunch of hog running there plus turkey and few deer but hogs right on the property. Also looked at a place near New Hope good looking land!
