I noticed that Nassau has a hefty permit fee, why is that?

It's a recreational use area. There are a handfull of them in the WMA system, 4 I believe. They are not really public land, as they are owned by a private owner or entity. The owner then contracts FWC to run the hunting on them. They are sorta like a lease, with WMA rules..

Thank you. very well explained. Do you know if most of the hunters that hunt Nassau respect other hunters? My experience with most public wma is a little scary. It's been since the 1980's since I have hunted last. I have a son that wants to go and not sure if I can afford a club. I would rather join a club if it's feasable. Thanks for the reply.

Can't help you with that particular place as I have never hunted up there. However I would suffice to say, there are yahoo's in all aspects of life, especially hunting. I have seen egg heads in romp n stomp wma's and also in high dollar leases

I hunted Nassau a life time ago, 1972. Killed some hogs. It was huge then and there was dog hunting as well as still hunting. I think the land owner at that time was Container Corporation of America. The deer hunting was not that good.

Then I understand things changed and it became more expensive to get a permit for it. The problem is you gotta spend your $$$ before you're even allowed to set foot on the property to do any scouting. At least with a club you get a tour of the property before you write the check. I don't think there's anyway you can do that on the high dollar WMAs. I could be wrong.
