I was reading the new regs for Green Swamp and I noticed something new for this year. Or I may have never seen it before in previous years. But, it's about public access.
This is what the new regs say:
PUBLIC ACCESS AND VEHICLES:
1. Open to public access year round.
2. Public access is limited to foot traffic and bicycles only, except during periods open for scouting or hunting, the May 7 -June 19 (Saturdays and Sundays only) fishing and frogging season and when camping is allowed.
3. Except at designated campsites, vehicles may only be operated on the area from 1½ hours before sunrise until 1½ hours after sunset during establishing hunting seasons, and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. one day prior to archery, general gun and spring turkey hunts. During the fishing and frogging season vehicles may be operated during daylight hours only.
Does this mean that we can go in and do some scouting on Saturdays and Sundays between May 7th and June 19th? Or does this mean that you have to be engaged in fishing or frogging activities while on the premises?
Confusing to say the least...
Sounds like they made a special little season for fishing and you can scout during that time. At least thats the way I see it
The way I read it (just in case I’m wrong, English is my second language) is that during the May-June fishing season you can access the area by vehicle. The rest of the time when is not open to hunting access is only by foot or bicycle. Right now it is open for fishing and we are camping/fishing/driving to the lakes where they allow vehicular traffic. The season ends on June 12 this year.
I hope it is that way. I'd like to cut some shooting lanes for Archery. Right now I know the branches are full of leaves and this would make perfect timing to do some trimming back.
Kortsman: Just to be clear, you know that the text you highlighted in red is refering to next year, correct? The area is open now for the fishing season on Saturdays/Sundays. Access is only from the Rock Ridge side. I'm in campsite 69, so stop by and say hello if you see my camper there (I won't be there this weekend).
