I wore out some shoe leather this weekend getting some pre season scouting in. There is this one block of woods that I have had my eye on for several years. It is extremely thick with planted pines and ti~ti thickets and myrtles. Also has a few scattered oak heads in it. Due to it being so thick, I don't think anyone ever hunts in it. Ive seen people in the adjacent blocks, but never this one.
I found a spot on the road between 2 heads where there is a really good game trail crossing the road. I went in there, and had a helluva time getting off the road because it was so thick. I almost gave up on it, but decided to keep pushing thru till I got to the back side of this one head.
When I got thru, my jaw dropped. It opened up into a little hidden opening about a 1/2 acre in size, sorta banana shaped, where it wrapped around a 3rd head. The whole spot was a spider web of game trails. Lots of fresh deer n hog tracks since the rain, old rubs, and fresh crap
I studied it pretty hard, and found one climbable tree where I can see boht directions of the clearing.
I put a camera up, can't wait to check it in 2 weeks. These little spots like this are what keep me up at night dreaming
Pic walking in from road
Looking to the right. You can actually see the trail hooking around to the left along the edge
Looking to the left. Look at the trail right down the middle of it

That's what it's all about, being willing to put in the time to find what nobody else will.
Any sign of human activity nearby?
Thats looks like a great spot, going to have to name that one the Kill'n tree!!
