Good Luck Guys, and remember to take pictures.
Well I ended up hunting Sat. only. Got a late start due to a sleeping buddy but got to my spot just after daylight. Didn't have a range finder with me but figured I could make a good guess at yardages. :die: Had a spike that was a little too close to call come under me early so he got a pass. Had a doe come by and she got a pass. Then a tall racked 6 comes by and is gonna leave me a small window to shoot through at what I thought was about 30 yds. I get him to stop at the right spot and let her fly and the arrow drops just under his belly. :pissed: He jumps and runs off a few yards and stares me down as I try to get another shot. I have a single pin sight and it's set at 30 yds. so I figure aim at the spine this time. Let another 1 fly and it drops exactly where the other one did. :pissed: This buck runs back another 25 yds and proceeds to snort and bark for 10 min. as I get another arrow ready. I grunted a few times to get his attention and it looked like he wanted to come back by but eventually walked off.
After the buck fever wore off I decided to climb down, get my arrows and climb back up to sit some more. Paced off the first shot at 41 yds. and the second at 45 yds. Will be getting a new rangefinder this week. This is the first time hunting in the cypress with this much water and I could hear them coming from 60 yds. no problem. Put my buddy in another spot 150 yds from me and he shot a 3 point that puts meat on the table. His 1st with a bow. Overall I saw 4 deer and my buddy saw 4 more so it was a good hunt any ways. I've seen game in this area every time I've sat there so I'm gonna try it again during the week. When we got to the gate there was only 6 other trucks there and I think they all have camps in the glades and were there on Friday. Almost like a private lease. The water was 1' or more everywhere so without the rhino I would'nt ever hunt if having to walk. In total saw 1 other buggy and only heard 2 others running all day. :thumbs up:
Sounds like a nice hunt. To me, any hunt where you see game is successful. Sounds like not too many people are hunting down there either :thumbs up:
Cool. I hope that is how it is during the first 9 days of general gun. But, somehow, I think not. We'll see. Good luck.
I keep hearing how many people hunt Bear Island and Turner River but seeing after 5 or so trips during season 6 is the most trucks I've seen where I'm going in. When I went a few weeks ago I did'nt get there until 10 am and there was not 1 truck. Gotta love it. There was only 3 trucks on Tamiami Trail hunting the loop also.
