It's legal and I've shot many of them during archery season, you'd lose the ability to move if needed with a treestand. Hunting them from a tree is great with a decoy as they focus there and not so much upward if you move slowly.
not being able to take the recoil anymore on herniated neck discs, I've taken the last 3 with a 22 mag rifle from the ground , and don't feel 1 bit guilty about it. think hitting a turkey that is almost always moving in the neck is an easy shot? with a sweet spot the size of a dime and ranges from 50-75 yds while wearing wrist/hand braces on each hand is not a cinch. try it and get back to me. would I rather be able to use a 12 ga and 5 or 6 shot at 20-35 yds, you bet, and it would be much easier. I have no trouble getting em in close, it's lining up for the shot with a rifle that takes much longer than a shotgun and more time to get busted while doing so that makes it harder. it is legal and sporting with different challenges to contend with. it is what it is, and it's do it this way or not at all for me. you still have to locate them and call them in, much closer than 50 yds and you won't be able to line up the gun without getting busted. I won't take a body shot, that would not be sporting imo.
In that situation I can see getting in the turkey woods any way you can.
thanks for the understanding. flats fishing sounds a bit like the fly fishing for trout I did, where you could see and target specific individual fish, almost like hunting.
Sorry for not replying back earlier but "life" got in my way. for last several weeks.
The reason for the question was that I was just curious what the law was.
