Yep I agree with both comments above. Both birds I killed had beard rot but the beards were not visible in the field but they were full fanned gobblers both 2 year olds but mature and once they took that hot oil bath it didnt matter about the beards.

I believe its actually "beard rot"...which is a lack of melanin in their diet

Believe what you want but I will believe what the leading turkey biologist maybe in the country Lovett Williams when it comes to the theory of beard rot so to speak.
