Mine was a bust, hunted cat creek area of econfina creek wma, did not hear any gobbling, called up a few hens, but never saw them....walked about 7 miles.....then sunday hunted the choctawathchee river wma, no gobbling, no sign. but the weather was perfect...nothing like the woods at the crack of dawn.
I actually got one Saturday morning but he never gobbled one time.. He tried to sneak in silently, lucky for me he bumped into a palmetto and I heard him.. As a matter of fact I have been out every day since the opening and I still haven't heard a gobble.. Seen plenty of fresh gobbler tracks so I know they are there but WHY are they not gobbling?
Congrats on scoring. i still have yet to getmy first bird, and i have been chasing em for years now, came close a few times, and those birds all came in quiet. well maybe they will be more frisky this weekend.
Richloam has been ok. I heard about 20 taken so far but not sure. I got a couple to answer my hen squeal but none got close enough too shoot, about 100 yards.
