According to kicks choke info chart .665 is recommended for 3" #4 shot, and in. 3 1/2" a .665 is for #5 shot. Probably because there is more shot in the 3 1/2". I haven't tested yet but,you could probably get good patterns from different shot sizes with the same choke. I'm curious to see how #5 shot patterns with the .665.
thats what I figure too. I'll split the difference between #'s 4 and 6 and go with #5 shot. I'll have to let you know how it patterns and if I can ever learn how to post a pic of the pattern I will. I can send a phone pic to any e-mail address but can't figure out how to send it to the right thread here.
I was patterning the 5's pretty well out of my gun. I stepped it up(or down) to the 6,s and the pattern density is like nite and day difference for the better
more pellets with 6's but less energy at longer ranges. I never killed one with anything bigger than 6's.I'll end up compromising with 5's once I use up all my 4's and 6's. maybe I'll use 6's for the first shot and 4's if needed for 2nd. starting to get a brain strain over this.
99% of the birds Ive killed are 20 yds or less anyway. I carry 5's also for longer shots but I feel real confident in my gun now with either. If I had the pleasure of hunting pastures I might re think it. Any bird within 40 yards is dead. Any further than that is a long damn ways to shoot a shotgun regardless
