I spent the night at my place last night and this morning I was up at my stand looking for a hog to shoot. At about 7:30AM I saw a large sow walk towards my fence line. A minute later I saw 6 little ones following the mama to my property. Then I saw two medium size sows follow the same trail. I thought I saw something moving among them but wasn't sure but when they came out into the open I saw that they were 8 little pigglets. Finally another large sow came along and with her were about 10 little ones and two medium size ones. There were total of about 30 pigs in the sounder. They all went to the drainage ditch and was drinking, wallowing and rooting.
Most sounders I see are usually number about 9 pigs and a large sounder may number about 18 pigs. This is by far the largest sounder I've seen.
I chose one of the medium sows to shoot and when I fired the sounder scattered with all going back from where they came except 4 little ones (about the size of football with stripes) that ran along the ditch in the opposite direction. I spend about 30 minutes looking before I was able to find those 4 little guys and I "shooed" them back towards where others ran to. I hope they find their mama.
A few years ago on opening afternoon of archery, I had 47 hogs come into my feeder. I felt like I was in a Hitchcock movie. I shot three and figured I had better get down and collect hogs. The smaller hogs kinda just stood around and never left. I climbed down, drug 2 of the hogs to my stand, and trailed a third one(never found it) and hogs were still there. Went to truck and got game cart, loaded hogs and wheeled them right by the feeder and there was still at least a dozen little ones there. Crazy. I probably could have walked up and caught a couple of them
