For the first time in almost 10 months, I spent the weekend out at my place and didn't see any hogs... not one.
I was up on my ladder looking Friday afternoon 4:30-6:00, Saturday morning 6:00-9:00, Saturday afternoon 4:30-6:00, Sunday morning 6:00-9:00 and then Sunday afternoon 4:30-5:30. Not one hog the entire time. I did see a doe on Friday evening and on Saturday afternoon and couple turkeys on Sunday morning. I check the entire property Sunday and there were no signs at all of any hogs. There were no signs of any obvious activities at the grove. It's very strange as I've always seen atleast one hog at distance on other weekends.

if you saw game and had a shot each time you went out, were would the challenge/skill and fun be? it wouldn't be hunting, but more like shooting fish in a barrel imo.

Actually I didn't have my rifle with me this weekend... only my sidearm.
It rare for me to take the rifle out with me as I usually just go out to watch and observe animals from my ladder.
I usually spend every morning and evening when out there looking for animals but I only take my rifle out when I want to shoot a hog to to eat. I usually shoot a hog every two months or so. For me it's not so much "hunting" as it's "harvesting".

Was checking out some new parts of Blanding I'd never been on after work today. I found some nice trails and some good areas for sitting but the wind was a biatch, real swirly all afternoon. Anyhow, on the way out I kept hearing some crows raising hell ahead of me. I figured they'd be yapping at something and sure enough it was small hog. It winded me in the crazy wind and took off. I'd never heard crows carry on in such a fashion at another critter before. I'm talking ten solid minutes of absolute racket before I got up to them.

Keep an eye on those turkeys. Come March you'll want to harvest one!
