Theres way closer places to you up to the north. Check out Citrus WMA, Chassahowitsca WMA and probably even Croom WMA. Chass is about an hour north of you straight up US 19
The Kissimmee PUA (Public Use Area) is gonna be about 3.5 hours from Clearwater. Just Google Map from your place to Basinger, FL which is about in the middle of the PUA. Look at the map in the brochure I linked to earlier and then compare to Google Map to find which entrance you want and how to get there.
I'm considering making a canoe/fishing/scouting/camping trip from one end to the other of this PUA in preparation for next year's season. I've got the canoe, tent and other stuff. Might even do it before this season ends for small game (squirrels, rabbits, etc.), but I just got a bow so I'm not ready to put the life of some animal at the mercy of my arrows. Have to use my .22 or shotgun.

How are those places for Hogs? I've heard Chass isn't very good at all.
On the Kissimmee River piece it is in a town called Basinger, on the WMA brochure you want to look for Starvation Slough, that is the archery/muzzleloader only area, it buts up right to the airboat launch. You can walk into it from the launch, there are alot of hogs and deer in there, but it gets hunted alot from airboats, I was just joking about the airboats but it sure makes it easier. You may also want to look on the other side of 98, they just opened that up last year to hunting, I am not sure on the regs but on this piece I beleive that you can use a rifle. As far as I know all you need is a hunting lisc and WMA permit to hunt both of these.
How do I go about getting a WMA Permit?
The Kissimmee PUA, which includes Starvation Slough, does not require any WMA stamp. Read the brochure I posted a link to and you'll find all that info, including what weapons can be used during the hunts. For general hunting and small game seasons, only a hunting license is needed unless you are hunting waterfowl, migratory birds, or turkeys, then you need the stamps for those which you get from the place you buy your license.
