Just wondering how far are you willing to drive to hog hunt in a WMA. As someone with no access to private land (and not actively looking to get access to any), I spend my hunting time in public land. I’m planning on going to a couple of the no quota hog hunts in the north zone (Aucilla / Blackwater) which will be a 700 miles round trip each. Do you think that is absolute madness? :eek
It is not the driving distance that matters, but your level of desire to go. Sometimes it is just good to get away.
Oh hell yeah that's madness! Surely there is a closer no quota wma? Lots of them only have quotas for the first 9 days. Some, like green swamp, have a huge number of "first come first serve" quotas after the first 9 days.

If you've got the time and $$$ to do it, then you are not crazy at all. Tampa to Aucilla is a beautiful drive, especially once you get N of Chiefland/Cross City. Should take you right at 3 hours, maybe 3 1/4
There is a campground at Rocky's on 98 with full hook ups. They have a really nice deli that serves good food, and a really nice campground in Newport with hookups.
Both are about a 15 min drive to Aucilla
If you're able to get several nice hogs, plus the fun of the hunt and trip in itself, I think it will be well worth it. Get someone else to go and split expenses, and it gets even better!
