I was just wondering because I live near a wma and I heard during the off season they(FWC) go in and kill off a bunch of pigs to keep the population under control. Why not just extend the season for them and let the average sportsman enjoy the population control? But I could just have some bad info too

Another reason is that they are considered game animals on a wma and they produce money for the fwc.Now that all these commy water managenent agencys are buying up all the hunting land they are opening up more hog hunting for a price. Year round hunting would put a dent on them especially if hunted with dogs. The better wma's are kept locked up,that's where you can see a lot of game just driving around in the daytime.

I'd rather have the WMAs locked up for part of the year and increase the number and size of of the deer and hogs that you have a chance at harvesting. Fitzhugh Carter WMA is a prime example of what limiting hunting pressure can do. The average buck there is 5.5 years old and 175# with many being larger than that. You don't see many deer that size in Florida on WMAs, let alone private land (unless it's a high fence game farm).
