Glad you can find someone to take them. Every time I shoot and clean a few when people want them, I ALWAYS end up stuck with it. Every time.
I got some brotha's out at a complex I service that said they would buy every hog I could bring them. I let them name the price, figured it would be a few dollars recoup in gas and ice. He said forty a hog, as long as it's not a little bitty hog. That was much more than I was expecting. I drove over there with one, knocked on his door....and it was one excuse after another. No money, aint got my govt check yet, I'll pay you next time you are out here, no room to put it, can I keep your $75 cooler and I'll return it (yeah right). blah blah..Out of principle, I drove it back home and put it in my own freezer

Heck, I got one in the cooler now I don't feel like fooling with

I'm in the same boat on my lease. Were overrun with them and we can only eat so many. If I let them pass I feel guilty. I pretty much won't shoot one in the afternnos anymore. Just don't want to mess with them. And I am not one to willfully waste them, and chastise people who do

This is a topic I have discussed with people several times before and there are always mixed opinions .I am not a wastefull person and I love to eat pork but after battling this problem for years and seeing first hand the costly damage done to people's property I to have an opinion. here is my situation and my take on hogs. I hunt on a lot of WMAs and I pass on hogs every year because I dont need them and choose to focus on deer.... But....I also hunt some private land that is all orange grove. The ONLY reason I have permission on the property is to keep the hogs in check, and deer hunting is just a bonus but really my main interest . I kill my share of hogs through the year and keep the freezers full and start passing them up toward deer season to minimize preasure on the few deer Im hunting. But it never fails , toward the end of the season as the fruit gets ripe the hogs start to destroy the grove. Rooting and smashing oranges every where you look. And then I get the calls from the owner wanting me to get rid of them. I try my best to give them to any one that will take em but alot of people who are so quick to say they need a hog are to lazy to clean it at 8 at night or at all for that matter, and I cant clean them all. So it comes down to the big problem, Hogs need to be killed but once their dead whos gonna take care of them in time. Alot of people take pride in killing coyotes and feel they are helping the native wildlife by doing so, all while hogs are taking over the country and in alot of areas do more damage to the habitat ,food sources , and native wildlife pupulations than coyotes do . And Ive never heard someone say ''why did ya waste that coyote meat'' .. The bottom line, is that the fact that hogs are good to eat doesn't make the problems they cause any smaller. Some people just dont want to hear it and others just cant understand it and some do ,but there are times when hogs MUST be killed regardless if there is somebody ready to take care of the meat or not.I say if they're damaging your property and costing you money than take care of them, if they're not than let them be and give em time, they'll piss you off again soon.

I too was passing on them for quite a while. I have a buddy who introduced me to this mission place here in West Palm. Now when I have a full freezer and someone wants me to get rid of them on a farm.... I skin and quarter them and drop them off. They used them to feed needy people and are super happy to take whatever I will give them. Yes I loose time, gas, and ice dropping them off. But with all the budget cuts and stuff it really helps them out. On a side note the keep asking me if I want a receipt for the donation, I guess you can write it off on your taxes or something??!?

I went out there last night and didn't see them until I was driving away so it spooked them.

Then tonight I went back out there with my 30-06 and they showed up a little before 8 and walked up to within 30 feet of my truck and never even paid me any mind. I saw the one white one I have been wanting to shoot since it has this weird huge growth/bump on it's back hip and put the cross hairs on him and pulled the trigger only to hear click. That spooked them and they ran about 50 feet away and stopped. I chambered another round as quietly as I could but they took off.. By myself trying to work the light and the gun is tricky at times..

No clue what happened. The primer was barely struck. Never had an issue with this gun or ammo. I'll figure it out tomorrow. This pig got a free pass tonight. Tomorrow i'll take the AR with me.
