Because you're tired of cleaning them?
I know a lot of people would die for a chance to be able to go out pretty much every night and shoot a hog, But honestly after so many the last few months on our property i'm letting them walk even when I have clean shots at them.
I have had 5 or 6 encounters in the last 2 weeks with them. And could of shot atleast one each time. I even took my feeder down and haven't put out any corn for them because i'm tired of feeding the suckers.. :chef
I was coming down the driveway last night a little before 7pm and saw a group of them out in the field. I drove up to within 50 yards of them in my truck then got out and walked up within 25 feet of them all while shining a bright led flashlight right on them. I only had my CCW with me and had a few clean head shots but I didn't do it because I just didn't feel like cleaning another one.
Then tonight my wife saw them out in the same field just before dark and I felt bad about passing on them last night so I took the 4 wheeler pretty close to them and had the cross hairs right on them but didn't pull the trigger. Again laziness of not wanting to clean one tonight I guess.
Anyone else just get tired of cleaning them? I have plenty of meat in the freezer from them, and they aren't tearing up the fields as bad as they were so I don't feel it's as important to hunt them right now.. Am I crazy?
And before anyone asks I am very sorry but I can't allow strangers here to hunt them. We have cattle and have had issues in the past and just do not allow it anymore..
Yes, I have passed on shooting them in the past. For me it depends on their size and how far I have to drag them. Like you, if I had a freezer full, I'd have a hard time putting one down.
Haha, well I can't say I've ever passed on shooting a hog because I ain't never really had the opportunity to go hog hunting. My hunting time is really limited so I tend to concentrate on putting venison in the freezer. But with that said I think I would pass if I had a freezer full. Heck if you got them on your property its like a guaranteed food source for the future. If you know they are there and can take them when you want there's no need to kill one just to do it. I've passed on many a deer because of size and laziness. Mostly doe but I've passed on a couple of young bucks too because I wanted them to get bigger hoping eventually to put them in the freezer. So I say do what you want on your property and don't give it a second thought. :rock_on
I'm in the same boat on my lease. Were overrun with them and we can only eat so many. If I let them pass I feel guilty. I pretty much won't shoot one in the afternnos anymore. Just don't want to mess with them. And I am not one to willfully waste them, and chastise people who do
I have but only when I'm focused on deer. I rather have venison in the freezer its a really hard choice since it has never actually paid off. Once the hunting season is over :chain doesn't matter what time or freezer space i have enough people around me that will eat it and couple people that i know could use it.
