not as many the second day, i had a hog stopped and some barkin dang hounds busted up our bay and keep runnin him instead of shuttin up and lettin my silent cur dogs get back up there to him..... nothing against houndsman but i hate a trail barkin dog. just not my thing,
headed out this morning to try it again.
I never understood the part about silent dogs. All I run are hounds and all they ever do is bay hogs. I mean almost every hog I ever run bays then you have to spend forever going in after it.I think a race with noise is exciting and you still have the same end result. As far as the swftmud hunts, there's so many hogs in my lease and I have a camp set up where all I have to do is roll in there and hunt almost yr round if I want with very few other hunters to worry about. The ones I do get mixed up are usually friends so we just pack to em'.Just do see any sense in spending anymore money for permits. My buddy went by himself last weekend with his beagle-walkers and they caught a 100 lb boar and bayed 2 others. He ended up with 4 using hounds by himself. Good luck today.

A lot of the hog huters today don't want the dogs to bark until the dog see's the hog because they feel like the hog will brake to early. That might be true but I like to hear the race and it is exciting for me and my clients so I use dogs that will bark while trailing. It helps me keep track of them also. Any way you get the hogs it is still a heck of a lot of fun.

I always thought the use of silent dogs was for basically for poaching ranches at night. At least the guys I knew of back in the day wanted them quiet for that reason.
if a dog barks before he has a hog stopped and looking him in the eye , then he dosent live in my yard. lol!
hounds vs cur dogs... this debate has been going on for a hundred years or better. to each their own.
and it aint got nothin to do with poatching..
