Has anyone here ever hunted hogs with a .17 HMR? I have heard a few people say they do it but not really for sure if they were being truthful. I have seen some of the damage that 17 is capable of doing just don't know about trying to take a hog with it.

My personal opinion that HMR is faster drops less and packs more of a whallop then a .22LR so i would say heck yes. But have never attempted.
You will NOT be happy with a 17hmr for hog hunting, nor would I recommend it. The bullets have a tendancy to fragment and explode on impact, causing a wounded animal. It is a varmit caliber. Search the internet, there are hundreds of reports on it
If you want a small caliber for hog hunting, you simply cannot go wrong with a 22wmr. A 40gr CCI placed in a hogs ear will drop like a sack of taters
for paper target MAYBE a 17 hmr. for hunting I've heard nothing but bad news about it. 22 mag all the way for me.
I do not really want to use a small caliber but in some of the management areas you can hunt hogs up until March but you cannot use a centerfire only rimfire. I would much rather use a 30-30 but the rule takes that off the table.
