fly fishing for trout in the nissequogue river in smithtown N.Y. small spring fed stream gin clear water with brookies,browns and rainbows some over 10 lbs, caught many 5 lbers and several of the big ones but could never land them, they would straighten hooks, wrap lines around submerged roots,and even had one jump out of the stream onto the bank to wrap the line around a bush and break it off those biggies, over 8 pounds were not stupid and usualy had several hooks in their lips like jewelry. a very unkown spot but world class fishing and less than 15 min from my house, I knew every contour, log undercut bank and honey hole there.
This month brings back a lot of memories from my youth. I'll neve forget the Skyway wreck,the MAy 8th floods where Highpoint elementary was hit by tornadoes killing friends of mine brother. Walking home from school in the flood water down 66th st. where Autumn Run is now because the roads were all closed. People were getting sucked down the storm drains and drowning.Scary stuff for a 12 year old kid.

I was working a new Publix down in Punta and decided to come back for a night instead of Hotel my Partner came to my House at 11:00/12:00 the night before drunk as a Pallbearer
and said he left his wife was not going back to work was going back to TN.Screw everything
I got pissed told him to just go sleep it off, I took his tools put the in my Garage and said we'll figure this out in the Morning, He waited for me to say I was going to sleep and hit the Door
In the Morning I called the contractor 5:30 and told him I had to pick up another partner so I would need a day or so
He gave me a Job for the day or 2 in a new Funeral Home so while I'm there popping lines laying out walls a guy comes in and says It's FUNKING DOWN, I new that thing sucked Its Funknig Gone !! and It killed a Bunch of People
NO Radio on Job a Bunch of us ask What are you saying ??? he said the Skyway ,I had a cool Chill over my Body cause It could have been me and said your kidding?? we all went out to our trucks and listen to the reports
I truly said a Prayer, I had a 1 yr old son My only! a Great wife and I thought Oh my God if Joe didn't Leave his OL
Him and I could have been on that, we used to meet on 19 and stop just before the bridge for a Coffee and doughnut and took our time going down cause, when we worked it was 10 -12 hrs a day then a Hotel
I thank god every year when I hear it on the News
I got to tell you, I crossed every bridge in NY/New England and most the others on the east coast
and that Dam Erector Set Bridge gave me the Chills every time I crossed it
That's where I wasn't 30 yrs ago, Believe it or Not :angel
that new bridge dont look too good imo.. its a 4 lane bridge. If theres an accident on it, it will be a big mess and if a car goes out of control those little concrete edges will fall right off with the car right into the water.. Every time i go over the s skyway i serioualy say a prayer.
But its sad what happened.. Noone deserves to die like that.
