I waded around nut-deep about in a low spot off the highway to get a stand with my friend on Sunday and that's the last time I will step foot in an oak hammock. I cannot stand the water.. but I learned from last year to get my stands out of those lower spots and oaks.
Can't wait to get back to Ocala to see what destruction this one has caused. Destroyed this cam a few days after these pics were taken. This time the feeder is hangin high. Feel your pain with those bears.
Notice how the cam has been turned to the other side of the tree by the bear. Original angle was facing the pine where the bear is tearing up a trophy rock. :help
Will the bears completely chase off the deer? I guess time will tell this season.
We even tried a rice bran feeder because Internet "research" suggested that bears didn't like it but deer Love it... Yeah right! Wasn't a crumb of bran left in the destroyed bran feeder.
I think you'll read every opinion there is about bears/deer, what they will/won't eat....I've read they will coexist, I've read they won't. I've read they will/won't eat soybeans.......my experience this year (fact).
We hung a corn only feeder a bear found in 4 days. Took him 2 days to completely destroy it. Pulled it down from a tree and crushed the can. Ate almost all the corn.
So as kinda an unscientific experiment, we hung another on a simple tripod close (above) and mixed in a lot of soybeans. He found it in 3 days. Hung around for 2 days. Left a LOT of corn and soybeans on the ground and didn't destroy an easy mark. He hadn't returned in 10 days. (when we got back to the spot)
There were NO deer that showed at the feeder for 2 weeks. I got some deer on a cam prior to us hanging feeders. Great trail area.
But none since the bear showed. We have deer on other cams within 200 yrds. But none on this one.
FWC is promoting soybeans as a determent. Jury still out if it effected this bear.
