I'm starting this thread a little on the late side of things. I'm going to show the process of making a mineral lick, and the out come of it. About a month ago I placed out a 50lbs. bag of cattle mineral and I plan on showing the process and how the deer come to it or not. I've tried mineral in the past with little success. Maybe because I've always hunted near the saltwater marsh. Now I'm going to try it a little further in coast and see the out come. I started out with an area that is a funnel between two ponds. I started by raking out an area about 4' and poured it out... There will be pictures to follow tomorrow because I'm going down to check it and see if there is a change. Everyone let me know your advice on the out come that you have had with a mineral lick.

Hope you have better luck than I have. Only thing I can get them to respond to is something with a high salt content. They tore up the spot I poured out a jug of cmere deer. I poured cheap soy sauce on it and they kept it pawed out. But it leaches quick and they quit fooling with it
I put out the regular feed store mineral block and my deer love it. Cost like 3 bucks

Ok of the pictures that I posted 2 are of the lick site and 2 are of stands that are in gun shot. The first stand is about 60 yards away and is a ladder stand and the second is a lock-on that is only 10 yards away. After having the mineral out for 3 weeks it looks to me like it is all gone I'm sure that it just melted away into the soil. The plans next time is to place corn around the lick and add more mineral of some kind. Before this thread is over it will be a dukes mixture.
