if I want to drop a deer in its tracks, try the high shoulder shot , verticaly in line with the center of the shoulder, and horizontaly between the spine and top of shoulder. it will drop them right where they are and will die in 15-30 seconds. it has a much larger margin for error than a neck shot, if high it hits the spine, if low it's in the lungs. it hits major blood and nerve routes.however my shots are most always very close, and I am picky about where I drop them, so I won't have to drag as far. passing up on a shot is not such a big deal anymore especialy if it's not an exceptional animal.
