I'd think on public land that would be baiting AND littering. 😉
I will have the verdict of sugar daddy test at the next SD card pick up. I went this morning and placed a couple of sugar daddys on the tree next to the trail cam and a some golden acorns just in case the ants get carried away.

Seems to be a myth, pulled the card yesterday afternoon and out of 168 pictures I never saw one picture of anything licking them. but upon arriving back to the seen saw nothing but empty sticks. I still have to check further detail of the testing but it is looking slim.

Bossman, that reminds me of the time years ago when folks were putting peanut butter on stumps, logs, tree trunks,etc..as a deer attractant. I thought about it and figured it can't hurt a thing so I stopped at the local Save-a-lot and bought several jars of cheap peanut butter. Went to the woods and found a suitable place for the peanut butter in front of a ladder stand, close to a good run.
One rainy Saturday afternoon when most folks with good sense were watching college football, I was sitting in the stand, watching for Bambi. At that time our lease was having a problem with a couple of dudes (nephews of the club president) running their dogs through our lease, they even asked for a key so they could go in and catch the dogs. Our lease is only 340 acres and we had all agreed, bird dogs or blood trail only. The boys figured there was no one in the woods on that rainy afternoon, found a track on the dirt road and turned the dogs out. There was a light north wind with the rain and as the dogs struck, I knew the race would come right by me in just a few minutes. So in no time I saw a deer easing along the run and then a total of 7 came by, not a buck in the bunch. By then the pups had got wound up and were lined out on the hot scent and I could see them coming along the same run. 4 or 5 hounds went by and the one bringing up the rear just stopped, winded the peanut butter and went straight to it. He licked off a bite or two and then took off, baying every breath, trying to catch up with the race that was almost out of hearing. Never did see a deer stop and lick the tree like the ol' hound dog did!
