Here is the one my brother in law shoots at. I think they have up to like 5-6oo yard range. It is down in Myakka. A lot of people go there to shoot their AR-15's

If you don't mind the drive down to Venice, there's a really nice public range a few minutes off I-75:
Knight Trail Park

From the Gibsonton/Riverview exit on 1-75 down to the exit on Laurel Road would probably take 45 minutes, then take you another 5-10 minutes to the range. You go east on Laurel Rd. from I-75, take the first left and go back north on that road (Knight Trail, I think) for a couple of miles, then left to the park, follow signs and sound of gunfire to the range! They also hold hunter education classes there. Really nice facilities.
