Just got a letter, got popped "rolling" through a right on red. That thing cost me $158. I was going to fight it after seeing the pics they sent me, one had my front tires on the white line with my brake lights on, the next pic had me making the turn to the right. However, after logging into the website, they had 8 seconds of video showing the violation, maybe "rolling" was a slight understatement, it was more like dragging the brake as I made the turn. A couple of things surprised me,
1) They are taking 8 seconds of video every time the light turns red, talk about "Big Brother"
2) A cop watches every violation on video and makes a judgement call before releasing these "violations"
3) I was heading east to west, making a right hand turn to the north, the video clearly shows the cars in the north to south lane making a left hand turn going east. I could see this happening in front of me and decided to make the right, I was not endangering me or anyone else. I am surprised the cop watching the video would issue that ticket. I see it happen everyday in front of police out on the street and they never stop anyone.
4) They only give 5 excuses for an allowable defense, otherwise you wait for a formal ticket, the cost goes to $262 and you get to go in front of the Judge.
Anything could happen in front of the judge, I decided to pay the bill but it ticks me off to say the least. I should of came to a complete stop, common sense got the best of me I guess.
Glad we only got a caution light here. Lol
There's cameras everywhere now. You can't gut someone and dump their body in a dumpster w/o it being on a camera
Those red light cams are a flat out money maker. Sucks
Pay it and move on... My wife got one and she says she stopped. We watched the video and she rolled right through it. I laughed... She didn't think it was very funny. I stopped laughing when I realized I was the one who had to write the check...
Get a lawyer and fight it.
I know of about a dozen people who got a ticket for running red light from the traffic camera and I believe 11 out of 12 people didn't have to pay the ticket. Most ticket lawyer around here charge between $65-$75 and if you get your case thrown out you pay nothing else. A police officer is supose to review each infraction on the monitor before approving the ticket but it doesn't always work that way. A city in Miami-Dade gave out something like 40 tickets at one time when a funeral procession went through a red light while two police officers were controlling the traffic... it was all on the picture.
BTW. I believe one judge in Miami-Dade and three judges in Broward will automatically throw out all tickets that were based on traffic camera.
