Well, had a public land hunt again and went yesterday to set up a couple of stands. My buddy went and found an area that he wanted to hunt and set up his climber. He asked me where I wanted to go look and I said lets go check the palmetto patch, an area that I personally never have hunted the "palmetto patch". I went in and set the climber up on a pine tree were I had an open view. This morning we met up at 5:00 and he dropped me off at 5:30 and I set off to the location that I had hung the climber. By the time that I got in to the stand and about half way up the tree I saw another truck come in to the location that I was dropped off. As I climbed I saw the other hunter walking in to his stand. I thought that I was about 25' up and set up for the hunt. As it got daylight I could tell that I was higher than I thought, maybe 30' up which I thought was ok the higher the better. Shortly after good light I saw my first deer, as he walked in I could tell that he was a buck. As with the new antler restrictions this 4 point wasn't legal so I had to let him walk. He walked in about 20 yards from me and passed by on his way back to what I thought was his bedding area. As he was passing by me I heard a couple of deer run behind me but I couldn't get turned around in time to see them. At about 7:20 I looked in the area that the last buck came in from and saw another deer slipping. I could tell right away that he was a buck just didn't know if he was going to be another 4 point or not. I threw the riffle up and checked for brow tines. Just as soon as I saw that he had brow tines I pulled down on him and fired. 180 yard shot and DTR he dropped in his tracks. He was good for public land anytime.

Great job. How tall are most of the palms? I have a spot like that but palms are 6-8' tall for the most part and not sure how hard it would be to see the deer and if they would even use that area.

Good job, Bossman!
There is something about a big 6 point that really pulls my chain!
