yup, huge deer on long island. something about the mineral content of the soil grows big antlers. hunting was very limited for guns, shotgun or ml only and it was by lotery on state land for a one day hunt, unless you had access to private land. and world class fly fishing for rainbow, brook and brown trout, from a few spring fed streams and rivers, I'm talking trout 10 lbs, 3 feet long and thick as a football, in waist deep or less water, gin clear. almost impossible to land the big ones on legal barbless fly tackle, I've hooked 4-5 of the big boys, but never landed one, had them straighten hooks, jump out of the water into a streamside bush and break the line, or their favorite wrap the line around an underwater branch.all within earshot of passing cars
