Last weekend was spent in the woods hanging stands/feeders/scouting, etc... My normal summer attire doing such is snake boots and shorts (NEVER AGAIN!!!!)
First of the week I noticed I was developing a rash on the back of my left leg. Now, I am historically not allergic to poison ivy/oak, etc. I pull the vines down all the time and its never bothered me. However, I do know for a fact I got a bunch of briar cuts on my legs, which maybe allowed the poison ivy oils to be able to take effect.
It has progressively gotten worse thru the week. Funny thing is, this does not have the tell tale signs of poison ivy. It has not blistered up or weeped at all. This morning it was a little better. Then midday it flamed up again and now I have pain in my thigh and calf, like a soreness/ache from the infection spreading. A while ago I started feeling sick and thought I was going to puke but that went away.
Besides briars and poison ivy I now I was in contact with....I had somewhat of a reaction to Deep Woods Off. I sprayed that crap all over and my skin was on fire. However, if this rash was a reaction to that, you would think it would be wide spread
I went to my dr on Thursday for a routine visit. he looked at it briefly and just said to put calamine on it. Didn't seem worried, but it is much worse now than it was then
Could the cuts allowed the deep woods off to get into/under the skin. I do not usually have an issue with bug spray unless I am already sweating, I do not like getting it into an open pore.
The exact same thing happened to my buddy Stumpy
Said he only used the leg every other step so it was no big deal
Everyone's system is different and probably constantly changing as far as reaction to various irritants. My wife had an allergic reaction to poison ivy and she found great relief by swabing the places on her arm with apple cider vinegar. She says it really burns at first, but gives quicker relief that the calamine products, etc.. It's cheap and worth a try. It cleared her last bout up in just a few days. The juice in that poison ivy is some poerful stuff, googled it and was very surprised at it strength and long life. Dogs can even transfer it to humans. Treefarmer
