NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -
A New Port Richey woman is charged with child neglect after Pasco County Sheriff's deputies say she left an infant and young boy in her car while she went hog hunting in 38-degree weather.
Investigators say Kayla Marie Shavers, 30, left an 8-month-old baby girl and a 9-year-old boy alone in a car parked on the side of a dark, isolated road while she hunted hog around 7 a.m. on Thursday.
The vehicle was not running and the 9-year-old boy told deputies he called 911 because he was cold and said, "A police car would be warmer," according to an arrest affidavit.
The boy was shivering and was not wearing a coat. The woman emerged from the woods about 40 minutes after Pasco County Sheriff's deputies arrived.
Shavers told deputies she had been in the woods for at least 30 minutes before she returned to the car. She also told them she was close enough to the car that she could respond, in case the children needed her, according to the affidavit.
Shavers said she was hunting hogs because they were tearing up the property.
She was arrested on two charges of child neglect.
Based on her pic (she's a hog to begin with)...I don't see many females dolling up with make up to go hog hunting. I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I don't think she was out in the woods lookin for hogs.....sayin
