What they're doing is similar to how you catch a herd of wild pigs.
You put corn out for a few days until the pigs are used to coming in and getting it. Then you put up one side of a fence, and more corn. When the pigs get used to the new fence, you put up another side, and more corn. Soon you have four sides up and an open gate. The pigs want the corn, so they go through the gate willingly. The gate is shut and they're trapped. They don't start getting riled up until all the corn is gone, then they run around inside the fence awhile, but it's too late, they're caught. They now depend on the corn because they forgot how to fend for themself, so they traded their freedom for the handouts. They think you're giving them free food because you love and care for them. They don't understand that they are being readied for slaughter!
