my wheels had holes in them in addition to the flat spots. some kid probably got scraped up and his parents were waiting for that one shining moment to make an easy buck and ruined all the fun for the rest of our kids. i agree with your wussification of america comment.
Another thing:
I have carried a folding pocket knife in my front pocket every day since at least the 5th grade
Never one time have I thought of pulling it out on someone. Never.
My Dad(RIP) gave my stupid nephew a pocket knife several years ago. It took him one week to pull it on someone, get his a SS kicked and thrown in jail for assault
I used to have a rifle in my gun rack on Fridays as I would leave from school and head to the woods. The principal looked at it and said "nice gun...Do me a favor and leave it in the front seat instead of the gun rack. And shoot a biggun, Ill be looking for a hunting report on MOnday..."
Imagine a kid rolling to school with a gun in the rack now
I got my first pocket knife when I was 5! A little promotional pen knife some vendor had given my dad, blade maybe 1.5" long. I would go out in the yard and cut bamboo and pretend to be fishing, or make simple bows and arrows. Dad was always coming home with some new knife from diferent companies, and if I liked it I learned that I could cut myself with it and he'd give it to me! Sometimes getting cut was an accident, but sometimes I was "clumsy" on purpose! I've carried pocketknives ever since, for nearly 40 years now. The first time I flew after 9/11 and had to check my pocketknife in my luggage, I felt naked the whole time on the plane!
