Been a bad start to the day, had to put the old dog down this morning. Scrappy was an old man, has been with us 15 years. He was lab/chow mix with a big bark but a good disposition. Hips ended up giving out, was having trouble breathing, no way to live, was breaking the family's heart seeing him struggle. It sure doesn't make it any easier though.
He was given to us at 9 weeks, brought him home and at the time we had an old female Rottie, about 85 lbs. She was on her way out, had a tumor on her shoulder, inoperable. She was grumpy but always a good dog. Well the pup was giving her crap one morning, she just turned her head and let him get in real nice and close. He was within inches when she turned and damn near bit off his face in one chomp. That pup took off like a rocket, made a lap around the kitchen island and came back for more, got about 3 feet away and just started snarling, barking and raising hell. It was at that point we named him Scrappy Doo. Always up for a rumble, whether he knew he was outmatched or not.
Rest in Peace Buddy :angel
Sorry for you and family
Always tough. It will be a bad day when the biscuit eaters here are time to go
Sorry for your loss! Its always tough to lose part of the family.
Always tough to have to put an old friend down. Had to do it more times than I care to remember. 1st time I had to finish an old friends life, I was about 15 years old, it never really gets easy to loose a dog that's part of the family but seems there is always a little pup somewhere that fills the void and it starts all over again......he becomes a family member.
