Crock, you are right, sorta like public ranges, alot more idiots there than private shooting clubs...it does make a huge difference!
i have hunted in clubs in georgia that had messed up rules and guys that wouldn't follow rules, that is what steered me to find a small peice i could get on my own. I hunted a small 80 acre piece for a couple of years with success, no big bucks , but managed to put meat in the freezer. Now i am in the position that i have a larger property , i am the only one on it and don't have to worry about all the BS of some of the hunt clubs. Getting back to public land, have hunted that also. mostly just for hogs and turkey. When orange isn't required. It is alittle nerve racking, just cause i know how safe i am, doesn't mean everyone else out there is. I have often wondered about Fl. and their hunter's safety rules. Really a child doesn't have to take hunter's safety until they are required to have a hunting liscence. which is 16. If the parents have bad habits (unsafe practices), that would be taught until the child would have to go to hunter's safety.
It is just common sense to ID your target, anyone with military training was taught that also. I feel there is no place in the woods for "spray and pray" hunters or people that shoot at noises. Accidents do happen, but 99% of them could be avoided with just using some common sense.
You really want to see stupid stuff happen, try guiding hunts. Some of the azz clowns that i would take out, it could get scary at times. I ended a few hunts because of guys sweeping across me with their muzzles, instead of ponted them up in the air.
I shoot at both public and private ranges and would prefer to be with poor good folks at the public range than rich elitist snobs at a private one. it takes more than buying a lot of guns and flaunting ones wealth to impress and earn respect. and GUNS ARE NOT TOYS.
i will usually go out to teneroc to shoot. Have shot pistols at Shooting Sports in Tampa. I don't mind the control and safety that is at teneroc. makes for an enjoyable shooting session for not alot of $$. on the other hand , went with Hellbilly to the public range at Ocala N.F. .. what a clusterf&%$#. Felt like i was gonna need body armor. Bunch of non shooting hacks there the day we went. was quite uncomfortable there.
