I need to remove the topper from my truck before a carrier come to pick it up tomorrow. I have two questions and was wondering if anyone here can help.
How the heck you remove this thing? I though it was just the 4 inside clamps, but looks that the topper is glued to the frame. I just want to make sure I don't damage the paint.
Once removed, how much can I ask for it? It is in excellent shape, two slide windows with screen, roof light and carpeted. I just want to ask a fair price for it.
Could be that the insulation strip has stuck to the bed rail. If you can remove the clamps and then try lifting up on one corner there by the tailgate and see if it will release. If it will and you can get something under it like a ruler or paint stick, maybe a plastic spatula, etc. that won't easily scratch the paint, you might be able to work it along under the edge all the way around and break the bond. I've had to do that before to toppers that had been on a truck a long time.
Not sure what the going rate is for one of those. Maybe check out some classified ads and see what toppers are going for.
Thanks GoodOyster. I'll try that to see if it works. I tried before and didn't even moved, but I guess I was in a hurry and didn't try hard enough.
sounds like Bubba might have been there with some kind of adhesive, try something like goo be gone on a test area first. good luck.
Its s rubber sticky gasket. Gotta pry around it. And its heavy as hell so even if you did break the seal you would need help lifting it. I know cause i was going to get a topper and i wanted just to buy it and install it myself.
The guy told me " you cant install it yourself" i said "why? " He said "because when you buy it, it dont come with the clamps and gaskets" i told him thats bull crap. I said " how much is the gasket and clamp kit?" He said it only comes with our install" i said well how much is your install" he said "150" i said "fuck that just sell me the clamps and gasket" he said " ok its 150!" So i said " basically your forcing me to pay 150 for the install, so screw you idiot! " And i walked out.
But he did show me the gasket. Its a double sided kinda playdo consistency thats sticky all around. Kinda like the double sided grey sealer/gasket they use on mobil home doors. Sticky as hell.
