In my day, we didn't have question marks, we had to cut the bottom off a "2" and put a period under it!

I remember back when I was about 5 years old, heading north on 301, and my mom hitting the brakes at the bottom of the hill. My dad had one of those old Fritolay Ford vans, that he "tricked" out with gold shag carpet on the walls, floors, and ceiling, and a bed in the back. I did a double backflip and landed headfirst into the "hump". And I got smacked for not holding on. And a car seat was the thing you stood on and leaned over while mom and dad were driving.

I remember the little tv sitting on top of the big console tv that didn't work, the extra wash rag you'd bring to the tub to plug the drain because the drain plug could never be found. I remember the ash trays built into the doors on granny's old Chevy, cutting a switch for Momma to whoop my butt with and I'd best not bring no little twig and make her go get one herself. I remember when no matter what went on the rest of the day, the family was seated at the supper table at six and ate together!

I remember Momma playing the organ and us kids singing along cause there wasn't anything on any of the eight channels on tv. I remember a little popup book I loved that told the story of Daniel and The Lion's Den, but you had to put on a 45rpm record that came with the book to read along with the lady's voice on the record and a little bell sound when it was time to turn the page.

I remember carrying my pocket knife in school and most of my buddies carried one too. Heck, kids today are so different than we were back then. A whole different world today than what we grew up in.
