The neat things you can see while out scouting. It's the only Melanistic fox squirrel Ive ever seen.
I've seen quite a few that way over the years. Never got to get one before the ban though. That is one of the neater color variations I think. I'm just happy to even see them any more. Good job getting you some pictures.
swissk31,
Back in the old days a fox squirrel was quite a prize, mighty good eatin'! There are a lot of them on Falling Waters State Park. Haven't seen an all black one before. We had a melanistic buck for a couple of seasons, he was a button buck the first season, his momma had a very pronounced black stripe down her back. The next season he was a legal spike that got a free pass on our place. He moved on I suppose as didn't hear of anyone bustin' a little black buck close to home. Thanks for showing the black squirrel's picture.

There used to be several on Palmetto Pines Golf Course in Parrish, FL. Not even sure that course exists anymore. It was owned and run by the The Boys Club, and then a developer bought it. Those squirrels would come right up to you, but not let you touch them, just expecting a handout I guess.
That lil fella looks like Wingshooter after a day on a dusty dove field. Nice pics. There are two bog ole fox squirrels we see every year on that farm we shoot doves at in Davenport.
