SO i had a just dandy sunday!. I went to a buddys house for a birthday party up north of me bout an hour away. Usually i stay the whole time and finish off the 18 pack i usually bring but for some reason i was telling wifey that i just feel like going home. Shes like well thats ok i guess. Well we actually take the long route home just to avoid the rt 19 traffic. So we get home an hour and a half later and right when we get to my door we hear a smoke alarm going off but it wasn't ours. It was upstairs. So I'm just like ok guess someones cooking something. i let the kids and wifey go into the house and i hear her scream """" BABE OH SH**, HURRY Grab everything" Im like ok wtf. i walk in the house and theres about an inch of water in the back half of the house. it looked like my ceiling
was swiss cheese with water raining down. So i grab my electronics and start to move everything to the dry side of the house.
I then run down stairs to try to find one of the land maintenance guys and no one to be found. So im thinking about the situation and came to the conclusion that ok for 1. theres a smoke alarm blearing upstairs, for 2 my house is flooding so im sure that their sprinklers went off upstairs and flooded my apt or my dam sprinklers also went off since everything was soaked. So i call the 911 and tell them that i think there might be a problem upstairs cause a fire alarm is going off behind a locked door upstairs and my place is flooded.
So the fire dept comes and ends up breaking down the door upstairs. they get inside and determine that the alarm i heard was a FLOOD ALARM and that their supply line to the toiled busted. NO IDEA HOW the place was vacant! SO the fire dept. Comes to my place helps me move my electronics and gives me tarps to cover everything.
We sit for about an hour then the maintenance guy finally shows up taking his sweet time walking to my place like he was on vacation. (obama voter) and im like dude get up here and shut the water off man. your walking like your in the park im flooding. ceilings peeling walls buckling and all. so they finally get the water shut off and then i still sit.. Then 2 hours later the cleanup company came to extract the water from the bathroom, and my bedroom (which is where my office is) also all my reloading setup got drenched. my flat screen tv, ps3 all the crap that cost money. the reason the whole bedroom got drenched is cause it was running down the ceiling and on to the ceiling fan that we always leave on and it was just making it splash everywhere..
Cleanup company got here extracted all the water and we stayed up til early hours washing and drying all the cloths that got wet in the closet and drying off all the electronics. Funny part is all the electronics still work. cant believe it. the rugs are dry this morning and i got everything back in place. but the guys have to come back with a dehumidifier and have to fix the ceilings and walls.
i called my home owners ins and they said whatever was damaged they will replace. well everything i just dried off and it still works , What i worry about is in a week from now if my stuff wont work from sitting water. i mean it works now and looks dry. but hey i mean wtf?
The lands company said they will give me an "oops coupon" for money off my rent. Man seriously they better wave a whole month for the crap i had to go through last night. sucks.
I had something similar but not to that extent happen years ago. Lady upstairs would get into he bath tub or forget it was running. You can picture the rest. Happened a few times. It really sucked. Good luck man.
uuuuggggghhhhhh! what a disaster dude. sorry to hear this hope all comes out well.
If the baseboards got wet you need to demand they strip the drywall out. If the drywall was wet you will have mold. Guaranteed. Mold issues will lead to health issues. Either have them strip it out or move you to a new unit
Meant to say drywall behind the baseboards
