sea foam is another good fuel additive. I add a can to a full tank of non ethanol gas in my car for long trips, it cleans engine/carbs/valves and I get an extra 4 mpg or so + better performance from the extra octane. in my car. on my avg 275 mile drive to boynton it saves enough $ in the extra mileage to pay for the seafoam and increased price of non eth gas. and it's surprizing how many mpg traveling early morns and night will save when temps are cooler and the a/c isn't working as hard.
HH thanks so much. I have a honda motor pressure washer with an ethanol carb and have been afraid to tackle it, thought a new carb would cost a fortune. I would want to replace any part that ethanol touched. now I only use non ethanol gas+ stabil in any gas motor tools and have had no issues. where did you get the new carb?
It was an aftermarket carb off eBay. I was expecting a cheap built carb but when it came in (4days) I was very pleased, looked like nice casting, clean machine work, serial and model numbers. Only thing I did not like was it did not have sediment bowl like description said. I contacted them just to let them know and they seemed very helpful. I left good feedback and used the carb they sent. Also I guess it was $20 shipped, did not come with gaskets but I was able to reuse the original Honda gaskets.
thanks, I think, now I gotta add fixing the pressure washer and power washing the world to my honeydo list.
Hey Allen, to me it sounds like you still have some crap floating around in the carb. I'd drop the float bowl and clean it out again. If there is any kind of grime in there it can stick the needle valve that opens and closes with the float and either not allow fuel to enter or make it overflow. That's probably where your issue is. I'd grab a can of carb cleaner with a straw nozzle attached and spray the jets out real good. Also spray out the bowl as the gum can separate from where it's adhered to with fresh gas and clog things up.
You also may want to invest in a inline fuel filter from your tank to the carb to filter out any crud that may come from your tank. Normally that’s not an issue with ATVs or motorcycles since they have a screen in the tank at the petcock but I've pulled them apart and found the screens have deteriorated or just come off. I guess it depends on how hard you are on it. Wouldn't be surprised if ethanol is the culprit here as well.
Hope this helps.
If you have a rusty tank it may keep clogging up the jets. If you take the tank off you can take it to a radiator shop and have it lined. I use Blake's radiators on Busch blvd in Tampa. I think the last one they charged me $35 it makes the tank better than new with the lining they put in it they say it won't rust ever again. Last one was over a year ago in a generator that sits a lot. Still no rust
