we had lilac bushes- the worst part was she would make me go and cut her switch. needless to say that took at least 1 hour.
it did teach me to not do "THAT" ever again,But I usually came up with another "THAT" sooner or later mostly sooner. I was also taught if you were not at least 15min early you were late
My Dad always kept his watch set 10 minutes early, so he'd never be late. We were expected to figure in for flat tires, etc.- a curfew was to be met- OR ELSE!!!
My Mom used one of those paddles, too. We moved one time and while cleaning, my mother found one stuck behind a radiator (if you know what that is). My sister had hidden it about 6 years earlier, and used a Magic Marker to write, "I hate this thing! It hurts!" and the date.
My Dad (former Marine) needed nothing but his mouth- you KNEW you didn't want any of him!
Never had to worry about leather belts, but I still cringe and shake whenever I see one of them vinyl reversible belts. Still have a few scars. That thing felt like an electric shock on a bare ars. I cut the damned thing up into little pieces and burnt it then flushed it down the toilet when I was 16 and my dad was at work. Shoulda done it sooner, cus I never got the belt again after that. He don't know to this day what happened to it.
