Me i tried to get into the marines but i have allways been too heavy.. If i had to go tomorrow id go to the marines. Bottom line.
I served a little over 10 years in the Air Force.
My first job was as an aircraft armament specialist on the flightline working on F-4E Phantoms, loading bombs, bullets and missiles, and taking care of the launchers, bomb racks and 20mm Gatlin gun. I was staioned at Moody AFB in Valdosta, GA.
Then I went to Osan AB in South Korea for 18 months, working on OV-10 Broncos, loading rockets and flares.
Next was 6 months in Las Vegas at Nellis AFB, working in the armament maintenance shop where we tore down the 20mm Gatlin guns, missile launchers, etc. from F-16s that were pulled off by the flightline guys when they broke or needed inspections.
Then Clinton closed the Wing I was part of out there, and they allowed me to retrain into avionics. So I spent 7 months in Biloxi learning a new specialty, and got staioned at Hurlburt Field in NW Florida, home of Air Force Special Operations. Spent the last almost 6 years working on AC-130 gunships, MC-130 Talons, and MH-53 Pave Low helicopters. Worked in the shop repairing components of the inertial navigation, autopilot and instrument systems, as well as doing inspections and depot-level maintenance on the aircraft.
Served during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm timeframe, but never had to go over. Got out in June 1995 when Clinton was doing more cutbacks and offered bonuses to people to get out. So I took the money and ran!
