To be honest everything you said is a cake walk. depending what year ford and if its 4x4 or not. Balljoints are easy if you have some simple cheap tools.

As for tire wear, as stated above ball joints, track bar and tie rod ends are 'factors'.

Steering box isnt always the answer for play in the steering wheel, honestly it's one of the last things I would try to replace
