Suspected shoplifter shoots himself at Kmart in Hudson

A 53-year-old suspected shoplifter shot himself in the head at a Kmart department store in Hudson this afternoon.
The man was in critical condition as emergency officials took him to Bayonet Point Hospital, said Doug Tobin, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities had not released the suspect's name.
No one else was injured, Tobin said.
Shortly after 3 p.m., security at the department store at 12412 U.S. 19 detained the man and brought him to a secure room, Tobin said.
Inside the room, the man pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot, investigators said. It was unknown if he fired the shot into the air or at someone. The man then dropped the weapon and picked it up, and employees in the room ran, Tobin said.
The man then fired one shot at his head, Tobin said.
