Yesterday I went by the local berry patch to see how many were ready for picking. Man, those things were everywhere. So, I went home and got the bucket and proceeded to harvest nature's bounty. By the time I was done, I had a little over 4 gallons of fresh dewberries at the house. Washed them off and packaged them at 5 cups per package and put most of the in the freezer. But, Mama wanted me to leave some out and she just got done putting a homemade cobbler in the oven.

That got me thinking about what to pair it with for dinner. So, this is what I came up with. Grilled antelope backstrap in a rosemary garlic marinade. Sauteed summer squash.Fried halibut nuggets and a cold beer. The antelope is from a trip I took to Wyoming last year, the halibut is from a fishing trip I took to Alaska last year. The summer squash, dewberries and rosemary are all fresh picked from here in Florida. All in all, it should make an outstanding outdoorsman's feast.

Life is good here in the panhandle.

Cheers

Been a few years since I ate me some antelope. Had some halibut last fall at hunt camp, and my families farm up in Missouri had a giant patch of blackberries, always got jelly and cobbler. I miss that a lot. We just planted two rasberry and two blackberry bushes at our house a few weeks ago, hopefully in a few months we'll have some to pick.
