I should rephrase my original statement. There is a BIG difference between cold weather and a hard freeze with frost. You can get temps down in the teens without a ground frost if there is a good steady wind and low humidity
The lease I am in is 95% planted pines so the ground is really exposed. When we get a frost, everything has a frost on it. And I mean everything. When you walk, water spews up out of the ground and freezes like ribbons behind you. There is no oak tree canopy to block the ground from getting frost.
Sure I have killed a pile of deer with cold temps. But one thing we all agree on in my lease, is that when we have a hard heavy frost, the deer just dont move until the frost begins to melt off. And when it does you need to be in a stand. We figured this out 3 seasons ago. We were getting a bunch of mornings in the teens with a heavy frost and noone was seeing deer. However we were seeing deer about the time we got out of the stands and headed back to camp

Went out today.. Went to homosassa. Met strunes and nacho there (very cool people btw).. The first hour at about 6 am the moon was right above and the owls were hootin... there was like 4 hogs fighting in the palmettos. i waited for like a half hour and they just were about 10 feet in but never came close enough. They finally walked further and further fighting and i just went to a new spot.. so i had some action today.. fun. also met up with hogman there.

I have been to that spot five times and all five times I have seen and heard hog. I am going to bring an 8 foot a ladder and sit on top of it with an auto shotgun and blast all four of thoes hogs. They are making me mad because they are teasing me.
