Looks good man. I went to a modified version of a no-till garden this year. Definitely pros and cons to it. Lot less back breaking to get it planted, but it takes MASSIVE amounts of leaf matter/etc to get a layer thick enough to be productive
Looks good. Hopefully next year ill have some crops.
i have been collecting leaves to build into the garden but haven't been able to covert to a no till yet. Any advice on converting would be great. Thanks
It takes a tremendous amount of material to get it going. A couple things I did....I found a tree company working in the area with a chipper. I had them back their trailer right up to the garden and unload it(plus I got free firewood out of it). Also I have hauled in tons of oak leaves. From my yard and others I pick up. Also went to a horse ranch around the corner and got a couple truck loads of composted manure(make sure it's composted or you will have a garden of oats!). You basically just put it down very thick(6-8" at least) and let the soil do it's thing. It'll go thru it's own microbial process and make some really healthy soil. All I have to do to plant a row now is just grab the garden rake and push the material to the side and get to the soil. The dirt is nice and fluffy underneath, and you cannot believe the earth worms. As the plants grow and the material breaks down, I add more as mulch around the plants. keep it thick. I also have very few weeds, which was my biggest issue with a tilled garden
