I've seen some good deals on the 5.56, but except for the price of ammo, after shooting the 6.8, I'm not sure I want one.
For 2012 I'll be adding some free float hand guards to the 6.8's, I'll sure that will free up some parts that will need to go into a 5.56 build....

In my opinion you can spend a hundred or two more and buy a quality rifle like Noveske, Colt, Bravo Company Manufacturing, Daniel Defense, or S&W.

The flat dark earth AR that my kid is shooting cost $630 to build, before adding optics.
I was able to build 2 complete rifles for the price of 1 Noveske....and had enough cash left over to buy powder, dies, bullets, and brass....

For me, the build was priceless....I took away the enjoyment, pride and satisfaction of watching my son take a pile of parts and turn them into a reliable functioning firearm.

get me the details on what parts/how you got the PSA upper/lower build for $630.. i've looked at what they have for awhile now and best ever see is 700 min plus shipping/ffl fee?? hook me up with your knowledge as i love a good priced ar build!!

If you spend 1500 or more on an AR in these times you're an idiot!

The market is flooded with them and I don't care what kind of barrel, caliber, hand guards, rails, stocks or triggers they have. You can easily pick up a USED AR which would cost 1500-2000 to build today for 800-1200 with optics. They are a dime a dozen. On the lower end of the scale, these USED AR's can be found for $500-700 all day long.

The build sounded fun and worth the experience for the two of you, but for $630 you didn't save a thing!

You must shop around............
At the time Palmetto had 6.8 spcII uppers with a complete bolt carrier group on sale for 399...
I added a Moe handgurd for $20....
I purchased a stripped spikes lower receiver for $90 at a gun show ..(included FFL paperwork)
Palmetto had Moe lower receiver build kits for $130

So ok I'm at $639, forgive me, i was doing math on my fingers....so i added a $19, 5 round mag, and I'm up to $658.....

Palmetto 5.56 upper $399

Palmetto classic lower build kit $89.99
http://palmettostatearmory.com/1633.php
Striped lower $79.99

Try not to pay more than $30 for the FFL paperwork....$50 is too much.

Add it up ....your at $600 and you need a mag.
Order your stripped lower separate from the rest of the parts or you be charged 11% tax on everything. Palmetto also offers specials from time to time on their stripped lowers...49.99

Oh man, don't be a buzz kill! I'm real happy with the way it turned out.
