thanks all, gonna stick with my 12 guage and get som birdshot for small game. keep saving my money for a loger range deer dropper
I mis read the original post. I thought he meant a rifle to use in small game season to shoot hogs and squirrels which is why I said 22mag. Which would be illegal for shooting deer..
Based on that, I'd go with the 12 ga
The shotgun is the right choice, as our supreme leader Junior Assistant Scout Master Nacho Grande recommended and is great advise!!! As for the .22-250 I had, it's already sold and gets mailed today.
PapaJ a .25-06??? Damm, why not just go with a .30-06 for squirrels? A .25-06 is a .30-06 necked down to .25 caliber. If you took head shots only at tree rats with a .25-06 and only wanted to retreive the back half of a squirrel it would work great. Shot a 6 pound wood chuck in NYS in 1996 with a .25-06 at around 200 yards and his head exploded... As for a .222, .223, .22-250, or .243 for squirrels.... Not me, to big. I would only use them for shooting crows, armadillos, possum, wood chucks, ground hogs, coons, skunks, yotes, fox, etc... IMHO .243 is about as small a caliber as you want to go for shooting deer with a 100 grain bullet. That is my opinion and I am aware that deer can be killed with a smaller caliber weapons!!!
For squirrels us a .22LR or .22MAG.... I prefer a nice 20 gauge shotgun with #6 shot and a modified or full choke to shoot tree rats.
Yep, Gunboy, right again a 20GA , bird shot, slug or buck, all around perfect gun! especially when you add squirrel and rabbit in the request.
is there a rifle that is good for small game like squirell and deer or hog? not like an expensive one with changable barrels I mean more like a caliber.
No. a .22 mag is illegal to hunt deer with, use a shotgun.
