Don't knock the foreign stuff. It ain't all bad. I have a Rock Island .45 I carry as my sidearm in the woods when we're running hogs and I can't complain. Solidly built, dependable, and it's probably built about as well as what our grandaddies carried since I hear the equipment they build 'em on was brought over from the US.
I don't mind carrying it in the woods because it is what it is but hell, my OOOOllllldd bereta 9mm I carried in Afghanistan wasn't much to look at either but it still went bang everytime and God only know what it went through before I got my hands on it.
i have decided to look at some other guns, considering a taurus millenium, kahr, either in 45 or 9. the 9 probably wont be much assistance in the woods, but would be more economical at the range. decisions, decisions.

big price difference between the Taurus and a Kahr.. lol .. Just look around alot of different options out there. Hold as many different pistols as you can, and which ever one is the most comfortable for you. I like the 1911 style, but the Sig P250 is growing on me, I find it pretty comfortable.
I like em simple, preferably with no safeties, all metal mags, frame and single stack mags to keep grip width and weight down. +1 for colt sig and kahr. I'm sure their are other good ones that will fit the bill.
X2 on the Sig Sauer, steel guns, no poly guns! IMHO save your money and buy something which you like, will last longer than 10 years, and actually be able to get your money back out of if need be. Out of a half dozen hand guns I own not one is newer than 15 years old and I bought two of them in the last 12 months. Older quality guns are built to last, not like most of todays crap on the market. My two cents
looking online i see there are quite a few magazine problems with the taurus millenium mags. the kahr at my local pawn shop is only about 70$ more than the taurus. i like the px4 the most. feels great, and i can conceal nearly any gun. i also like the smith and wesson m+p. it is all just a matter of time before i get a new toy!
