Do any of ya'll know if the FWC sponsored shooting range in the Ocala WMA is still open and in use? The FWC page says it would remain open if people treated it well, but I have tried contacting them to confirm their hours with no success. Does anyone know if it's still in operation, and has anyone shot there?
Thanks,
Jared

Yes it is still open. It is closed for clean-up and repair on either Wednesdays or Thursdays until 2pm. I can't remember which day. Be advised: You might want to bring your own target stand just in case the "free for all'ers" have been there before you blasting away the posts and anything else in range. Its a good range, but can get crowded very quickly on the weekends. Sometimes on the weekdays as well because a lot of snowbirds hang out in the area and like to come shoot a little, which I think is great.
A WORD OF CAUTION: If you are there by yourself be very alert. There can be a bad element of folks checking things out from time to time. If you have the range to yourself or if there are only a couple other folks there, DO NOT leave your firearm on the bench when walking down to check your targets. I've heard stories of more than one person coming back up to find their gun gone. Hope this helps.

I haven't been out there in about 2 years, last time I was there with my wife and step son I called the Sheriff and reported suspicious individuals hanging out and shooting at the range. A deputy showed up about 45 minutes later and suddenly all the rift raft departed, he didn't even get out of the car.

I tried to go there last week on Tuesday and Thursday and both days it was EXTREMELY packed! Both sides (shotgun and regular) were packed with folks lined up. The entire parking lot was full and there were even people waiting in the parking lot to shoot. I just turned around and went back to my office in Ocala. I think it was so packed due to vacations the week after Christmas and people shooting new guns they got for Christmas and not having to work. I'm going to try and get out there this week.
